Are you spiralling Up, or are you spiralling Down?

Why do some people cope with the change and challenges of retirement, while others
struggle?

Is it because some simply don’t feel fear? I doubt it!

We all know what it’s like to worry about the ‘what if’s’ of life.  Who hasn’t woken up at night with their mind racing into a living nightmare of troubles? Worry steals the happiness from
many people’s days and nights.

We all have fears and concerns. So how do some overcome this?

As an ILS Coach, 20 years of having the privilege of serving many successful
people, has taught me this… It’s not that some don’t have inner obstacles like
doubt, fear, procrastination, etc. because it seems that we all do. Rather,
it’s that some feel paralysed to do anything about their inner obstacles, while
others know that they can coach themselves to overcome these inner obstacles.

So the real power is in learning to coach yourself, so that your inner obstacles
don’t hold your life to ransom.

An ILS self-coaching technique that makes the difference between fear and power is
called Spiral Up.

Spiral down is when our thought and conversations focus on the past, negativity and problems.

Spiral up is when our thought and conversations focus on the future, positivity and solutions.

To coach yourself to a spiral up attitude simply notice when you’re spiraling down and consciously ask yourself a few helpful questions to guide your mind to focus on spiraling up.

These are 4 UNHELPFUL spiral down questions to avoid because they limit us and prevent progress:

  1. Why me?
  2. What’s wrong with me?
  3. Why can’t I change this?
  4. Why can’t my retirement be different?

Can you see how these questions spiral us down?

Now have a look at the difference a spiral up question can make…

Here are 4 HELPFUL self-coaching spiral up questions to ask yourself instead:

  1. What is in my power to change?
  2. What are some possible solutions to the challenges I face?
  3. How might I overcome this?
  4. How can I get the best out of my retirement?

Here is wishing you a spiral up retirement!
